CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man is behind bars today after allegedly threatening members of his family and then barricading himself inside the residence.
It all happened late Saturday evening on Cooks Hill Road just south of downtown Chillicothe.
According to the report provided by the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to the residence in the 1000 block of Cooks Hill Road around 7 p.m. The report stated that 18-year-old Blake Long was inside the residence making threats to harm himself and other family members. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with some of the residents who stated that Long was inside acting erratically with a gun. Deputies reported that they could hear the 18-year-old screaming inside.
Officials say deputies attempted to get the family to exit the residence but instead went back inside to try and get the weapon from Long. Deputies said they positioned themselves behind their cruisers and attempted to call Blake Long out of the home. Additional officers from the Chillicothe Police Department, as well as troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol, and agents from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources were also dispatched to assist.
Authorities attempted to use their cruiser’s PA system to try and talk the man out of the residence. A SWAT team and hostage negotiators, per law enforcement, were also placed on standby during the situation. After several minutes, a family member exited the residence with the weapon, later determined to be a BB gun. Blake Long eventually exited the residence as well and surrendered to deputies.
Two residents inside the house provided conflicting stories, according to the sheriff’s office, saying Long never threatened them with the BB gun.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with obstruction, using a weapon while intoxicated, inducing panic, and disorderly conduct.
