CINCINNATI, Ohio – Procter & Gamble has issued a voluntary recall of over 8.2 million bags of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets due to a defect in the child-resistant packaging.
Hazard: The flexible bags containing the detergent packets can split open, posing a serious risk of ingestion for children and vulnerable populations. Ingestion of concentrated detergent can cause severe injury or, in extreme cases involving underlying health issues, death. Skin or eye contact with the detergent also poses a risk of injury.
Remedy: Consumers with affected products should immediately place them out of reach of children and contact Procter & Gamble for a full refund and a free replacement child-resistant bag for storage. Cabinet locks are also available upon request.
Affected Products: The recall applies to specific lot codes manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024. Products range from 12-count to 39-count bags, including:
- Gain Flings (Original, Moonlight Breeze, Blissful Breeze, Spring Daydream)
- Tide Pods (Original, Simply Pods Plus Oxi Boost, Clean Breeze, Free & Gentle, Oxi, Ultra Oxi, Light)
- Ace Pods (Clean Breeze, Spring Meadow)
- Ariel Pods (Alpine Breeze)
How to Check: Consumers can verify if their products are affected by the lot code printed on the bottom of the package. A full list is available at [invalid URL removed] or by calling Procter & Gamble toll-free at 833-347-5764 (Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM, Saturday 9 AM- 5:30 PM ET).
Incidents: Procter & Gamble has received four reports of children accessing the pods in the U.S. during the affected period, with three involving ingestion. It’s unknown if these cases are directly linked to the defective packaging.
Where Sold: Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart, Amazon.com, and various other retailers nationwide, sold between September 2023 and the present. Prices ranged from $5 to $30.
