CLARK COUNTY, Ohio — An 81-year-old man, William Brock, has been charged with murder following a tragic incident involving an Uber driver whom he mistakenly believed to be part of a scam operation.
According to investigators, Brock received a phone call from an individual claiming that a family member had been arrested and required bail money. Around the same time, Loletha Hall, a 61-year-old Uber driver, was dispatched to pick up a package from Brock’s residence.
Upon Hall’s arrival, Brock, armed with a revolver, confronted her. The encounter, captured on camera, allegedly shows Brock demanding Hall’s cellphone and preventing her from returning to her vehicle.
The situation took a deadly turn when Brock reportedly fired at Hall, hitting her once initially and then twice more. Hall was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
In response to the incident, Uber has banned the individual who requested the ride to Brock’s residence. However, no additional details have been released.
A grand jury in Clark County has since indicted Brock for murder.
