CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A water main break in the Edgewood area has prompted a boil advisory affecting several neighborhoods in Ross County. The advisory, effective immediately, Sunday at 3:15 p.m. will last for 48 hours.

The break occurred on Edgewood Drive, causing a loss of water pressure in nearby areas. As a result, residents in Brewer Heights, Hesswood Hills, Sharon Road, and Edgewood Drive are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before consumption. Around 5 p.m., on Sunday, the city added Yaples Orchard to the list.

During a boil advisory, local officials recommend boiling water for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth, washing food, and making ice. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and then cooled before use. Residents are also urged to discard any ice made from unboiled tap water during this period.

It is safe to use tap water for bathing and cleaning, but care should be taken to avoid ingesting the water, especially for young children and those with compromised immune systems.

Local officials have not yet provided an estimate for when repairs to the water main will be complete.

The boil advisory will remain in effect until water pressure is restored and testing confirms that the water is safe for drinking and other household uses, or 48 hours, whichever occurs first unless otherwise notified.
