SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio River is expected to swell significantly over the weekend due to increased runoff, pushing water levels to a moderate flood stage by Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Friday morning, the river stood at 39 feet at the Cincinnati sensor, just shy of the 40-foot “action stage,” which forecasters predict will be reached later Friday morning. The river is projected to rise steadily through Friday and Saturday, reaching 52 feet by Saturday evening—officially entering flood stage.
The upward trend will persist into Sunday, with the river expected to hit 56 feet by 8 p.m., elevating conditions to a moderate flood stage. The rapid rise is attributed to substantial runoff from recent precipitation across the region.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the river approaches levels that could impact low-lying areas and infrastructure along the waterfront. Residents are advised to stay informed as the Ohio River continues its ascent through the weekend.
