COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Guardian has projected Vivek Ramaswamy as the winner of Ohio’s Republican primary for governor, as unofficial statewide results show him holding a commanding lead with more than half of precincts reporting.

According to the Ohio Secretary of State’s office, Ramaswamy and running mate Robert A. McColley have received 430,181 votes, or 81.94%, far ahead of Casey Putsch and Kimberly C. Georgeton, who have 94,833 votes, or 18.06%. The projection by the Guardian is based on statewide performance and the margin reflected in early returns. Results remain unofficial until counties complete their canvass and certify totals.

On the Democratic side, Amy Acton and David Pepper are running unopposed and have received 423,849 votes statewide. Libertarian candidates Don Kissick and James L. Mills also ran unopposed, receiving 4,686 votes.

Statewide turnout figures show 4,729 of 8,830 precincts reporting, or 53.56%, with all 88 counties reporting absentee totals. The Secretary of State’s office notes that 2,576 outstanding UOCAVA and provisional ballots may still be counted if received by the legal deadline.

In a statement released after the AP projection, Ramaswamy said he was grateful for the support and pledged to focus on economic issues and education heading into November.

All results remain unofficial until certified by the state.
