WILMINGTON, Ohio — The National Weather Service is warning residents across the region to stay weather-aware Tuesday as showers and thunderstorms move in during the afternoon and continue through the overnight hours, with some storms potentially reaching severe intensity.

The Wilmington office of the National Weather Service has issued a Level 2 severe weather outlook for the area. Damaging wind gusts are the top concern, rated at an elevated threat level, with the potential for scattered downed trees and power lines — the greatest risk concentrated northwest of I-71. Large hail and isolated flooding carry a limited threat rating.

Storms are expected to begin developing Tuesday afternoon, with a line of storms possible during the evening hours, continuing into the overnight. The threat window runs from approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday through 3 a.m. Wednesday. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, particularly north of I-70, though confidence in that threat is low.

Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roadways, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts throughout the day. The National Weather Service will issue an updated briefing by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
