WILMINGTON, Ohio — Residents across central and southern Ohio should plan for a stormy Saturday afternoon as the National Weather Service in Wilmington is forecasting a round of showers and thunderstorms ahead of an approaching cold front — with some storms capable of turning severe.

According to the NWS Wilmington office, the primary window for strong to severe weather is noon to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the region under a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk, with scattered severe storms possible and the potential for longer-lived storm activity.

The main threat is damaging straight-line winds. Residents should have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and stay weather-aware throughout the afternoon.

Temperatures on Saturday will be seasonably warm ahead of the front. Cooler and calmer conditions are expected to move in on Sunday once the front clears the region.
