PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A Portsmouth woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Lucasville last week, according to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman.
The Scioto County 911 communication center received a call at approximately 5:53 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, requesting emergency medical services for a man who had been stabbed. Deputies responded to the scene and requested a detective to lead the investigation.
The victim was identified as 45-year-old Larry William Gill of Lucasville. Gill was initially transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being flown to an out-of-town trauma center. He has undergone two surgeries for a chest wound and remains in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives determined that Gill and his family were staying at a residence on Ridge Lane in Lucasville. According to investigators, a woman identified as 40-year-old Rheena Nichole Shaw of Portsmouth had visited the residence earlier that day. As she was leaving, deputies allege Shaw stabbed Gill in the chest before fleeing on foot. Law enforcement later located and detained Shaw without incident.

Shaw appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court for arraignment on Thursday, June 11, and is being held on a $100,000 bond on the attempted murder charge. She faces the following charges:
Two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies, and one count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony.
Sheriff Thoroughman said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and that additional charges are expected to be presented to a future session of the Scioto County Grand Jury.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
