WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County will take back responsibility for building permit review and inspections at the Honda-LG Energy Solution battery plant near Jeffersonville, commissioners decided June 29, returning that oversight to the county after the state had been handling it.
Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize the county Building Department to resume permit review and inspections for the L-H Battery Company plant, as spelled out in Exhibit G of the county’s development agreement with L-H Battery Inc., according to meeting minutes. Commissioner Donald Fleak made the motion, and Commissioner Tony Anderson seconded it.
L-H Battery Company is the joint venture between Honda and LG Energy Solution building the $3.5 billion electric-vehicle battery plant that broke ground in Fayette County in 2023.
In separate action at the same meeting, commissioners approved a $201,940 amendment to the guaranteed maximum price contract with Bowen Engineering Corp. for construction of the county’s new water treatment plant, covering additions such as fire alarm work, an elevated water tank change and added electrical conduit, the minutes said.
Commissioners also agreed to put $5,000 of the county’s opioid settlement funds toward the McNair Mens Mission boarding house for working men, according to the minutes.
