BOURNEVILLE, Ohio — The Twin Township Fire Department has added four more sets of protective turnout gear to its inventory, bringing the number of new sets issued this year to 11 and outfitting roughly half of the volunteer department’s membership with updated equipment.
The department announced the delivery in a Facebook post Friday, saying the gear had arrived a day earlier. The new sets include coats and pants built for firefighters responding to structure fires and other emergencies in Twin Township, in northwestern Ross County.
The department said the purchases were made possible through a combination of community support and several grant awards, and that it plans to keep pursuing grant funding to replace gear for its remaining members next year.
Photos posted with the announcement showed firefighters J. Hammond, B. Jamison and M. Norman holding up their newly issued coats, each embroidered with the department’s “Twin Fire 1600” designation, in front of one of the department’s engines at the Bourneville station.
Twin Township Fire is an all-volunteer department that has served the Bourneville area since 1978, according to markings on its apparatus. The department, led by Fire Chief Shaun Allen, responds to fire calls in the township while Twin Township contracts with neighboring agencies for EMS coverage, according to the township government.
The department also thanked its equipment supplier, Citizens First Fire, for its continued service in outfitting the department’s firefighters.
