CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 22 for the rebuilt skate park at Yoctangee Park, reopening a facility that sat closed for months while it was relocated and rebuilt.
Mayor Luke Feeney will lead the 4 p.m. ceremony at the skate park, near the Donald M. Smith Memorial Pool, according to a news release from his office. The event is free and open to the public, and the mayor’s office said riders of all ages are encouraged to attend.
“The new skate park reflects our commitment to providing safe, high-quality recreation spaces for our community,” Feeney said in the release. “We know going without a skate park all summer was a real disappointment, and we sincerely appreciate the community’s patience while we relocated and rebuilt this space. Now that the new skate park is open, we encourage everyone to come check it out and see what it has to offer.”
The skate park’s rebuild followed a Chillicothe police officer’s fundraising push for a legal graffiti wall at the new site, part of the broader push to add amenities as the facility was redeveloped.
City officials said Tuesday’s event will be the first of several ribbon cuttings planned to mark the completion of upgrades throughout Yoctangee Park, where crews have recently finished paving Enderlin Circle and installing new sidewalks and lighting as the park’s broader overhaul nears completion.
