CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 5 for new pickleball courts and resurfaced tennis courts at Yoctangee Park, Mayor Luke Feeney announced.
The ceremony is set for 4 p.m. at the Yoctangee Park tennis and pickleball courts near the playground. It is free and open to the public, and Feeney invited players of all ages and community members to attend.
The courts are part of a project that added dedicated pickleball courts to the park for the first time and completely resurfaced and repainted the existing tennis courts, which the city said had reached a point requiring more than routine maintenance.
“For the first time, Chillicothe has dedicated pickleball courts, giving our growing pickleball community a place of its own in Yoctangee Park,” Feeney said in a statement. “At the same time, we were able to completely resurface and repaint our tennis courts, which had reached the point where they needed more than routine maintenance. These improvements give both pickleball and tennis players the quality courts they deserve, and we invite everyone to come out, pick up a paddle or a racket, and enjoy them.”
The project is funded through the Appalachian Community Grant program. The Oct. 5 event is the second in a series of ribbon cuttings celebrating improvements throughout Yoctangee Park, following a ribbon cutting for the rebuilt skate park held earlier this month.
