PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A crash closed U.S. Route 23 in both directions at the Pickaway-Franklin county line early Thursday, cutting off a key route between central Ohio and the Scioto Valley.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office said in an advisory issued just before 1 a.m. that both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway were shut down and urged drivers to find an alternate route. The advisory did not give a timeline for reopening the highway.

The closure marks at least the second time this year that a crash or emergency response has shut down US 23 at the same county line stretch — in September, a fire response closed the highway’s southbound lanes at the Franklin County line.
