WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Anyone seeking a commercial building permit in Fayette County will now pay 25% more for plan review, after county commissioners approved a fee increase at their July 27 meeting.
The Fayette County Board of Commissioners adopted the increase on the recommendation of Craig Breedlove, the county’s building official, raising plan review fees from $200 to $250 across six permit categories: general building and structural, heating/ventilating/air conditioning, electrical, fire alarm, fire sprinkler and industrialized unit permits.
The vote was unanimous among the two commissioners present, James Garland and Donald Fleak. Commissioner Tony Anderson was absent from the meeting.
The increase applies to commercial projects reviewed by the county building department, which has been processing a heavy volume of large-scale development in recent months, including its resumed review of building permits for the Honda-LG battery plant.
In other business at the same meeting, commissioners accepted a $16,524 quote from Reddy Electric Co. of Xenia to install six Verkada security cameras at the Fayette County Administration Building, and approved a two-year, not-to-exceed $25,000 on-call engineering services agreement with American Structurepoint Inc. for 2026 and 2027.
Commissioners also entered executive session to discuss personnel matters with County Administrator Kate Wells and Commissioner-elect Brance Johnson before returning to regular session with no action taken.
