WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County Public Health’s second annual community baby shower drew 162 guests to Washington Middle School on Aug. 6, the health district said in a Facebook post.
The event, called “Locally Grown: Baby on the Way,” offered expectant parents and caregivers with infants younger than 6 months free baby supplies, local resource tables, games, food and prize giveaways, according to the health district. Volunteers, vendors and community partners helped staff and organize the event, the health district said.
“Every family deserves to know they have a community behind them,” the health district said in its post thanking attendees, volunteers, vendors and partners for the turnout.
The health district launched the community baby shower in 2025, drawing families to Washington Middle School’s cafeteria for what organizers described as a first-of-its-kind event built around infant health resources rather than gifts for a single family. This year’s event drew sponsorship and resource support from organizations including Adena Midwives, the Carnegie Public Library, Washington City Schools and Walmart, according to earlier health district announcements. Ahead of the shower, Cedarvale Commons Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center also organized a diaper drive to help supply the event, collecting donations from the public through Aug. 3.
Fayette County Public Health, headquartered at 317 S. Fayette St. in Washington Court House, provides maternal and child health services including the Reproductive Health and Wellness Program, childhood immunizations and school nursing for districts throughout the county. The health district said it plans to share a link to a full photo album from the event next week.
