ROSS COUNTY, Ohio –– Deputies conducting a routine search of inmate mail at the Ross County jail found drugs this week.

On Tuesday, deputies said they were searching through inmate mail when they came across two cards that had been sent to a male inmate. One deputy noted to another that the particular inmate had been known to smuggle drugs into the jail before, and as a result, deputies made a closer inspection of the cards the inmate had received.

One deputy wrote in his report that the card felt “thicker” on one side than the other and when he peeled back the cover, he revealed a pocket inside that had two baggies of white substance, presumably drugs; the sender of the mail was not revealed in the report.

The evidence was secured for further testing, according to reports, and supervisors were notified.
