WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County commissioners will reopen bidding Aug. 24 on a Rattlesnake Water System Improvements building after the only bid submitted the first time came in far above the project’s estimated cost.

The board is scheduled to open new bids at 10 a.m. for the Rattlesnake Water System Improvements Contract A-1, the dewatering building, according to the meeting agenda. Commissioners rejected a $1.25 million bid on the building in July after it came in well above County Engineer Jason Little’s $820,000 estimate, and ordered the project put back out to bid.

Commissioners are also set to consider a change order for Mid Atlantic Storage Systems covering a clearwell tank level sensor installation at the headworks under a separate Rattlesnake contract, according to the agenda. The rebid and change order come as the county continues work on the broader water treatment plant project, for which commissioners recently added $166,720 to the construction manager’s contract to cover rising costs.

The board is also expected to take up a resolution authorizing a service agreement with Stellar Services LLC to provide inmate telephone, video visitation and related communication services at the Fayette County Jail, according to the agenda. The item carries over from a previous meeting as old business.

In other business, commissioners plan to issue a proclamation recognizing four Ohio Proud businesses and declaring August 2026 as Ohio Proud Month, and to authorize rescheduling the board’s Aug. 31 weekly meeting to Wednesday, Sept. 2, because of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio’s summer symposium.
