WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — A rebid for a building at Fayette County’s Rattlesnake Water Treatment Plant came in nearly $153,000 under the county engineer’s estimate, but commissioners voted Aug. 24 to hold off on awarding the contract for further review.
Doll Layman Ltd. of Tipp City submitted the lone bid of $1,047,000 for the Rattlesnake Water System Improvements Contract A-1, the project’s dewatering building, according to meeting minutes. County Engineer Jason Little’s estimate for the work was $1.2 million.
Commissioners voted unanimously to table a decision on the bid per Little’s recommendation, pending further review, the minutes said.
The rebid followed commissioners’ rejection in July of a $1.25 million bid on the same building, which came in well above Little’s earlier $820,000 estimate.
In separate action, commissioners approved a 10th change order on the treatment plant’s headworks contract with Mid Atlantic Storage Systems, adding $20,581 for labor, materials and installation of a clearwell tank level sensor. The change order raises the contractor’s total contract amount to $9,175,514.06, according to the minutes.
Commissioners also approved a $150,000 additional appropriation to the sanitary sewer fund’s Rattlesnake contract services line, the minutes show.
The dewatering building rebid and the change order were the latest cost developments in the county’s multi-year Rattlesnake water system overhaul, for which commissioners recently added $166,720 to the project’s construction manager contract to cover rising costs.
