ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County man was indicted on multiple charges of sexual assault involving a 10-year-old child.

A Ross County grand jury handed down an eleven-count indictment against Zachary Jenkins, 27, of Chillicothe. Jenkins faces multiple charges of rape and gross sexual imposition.

According to officials, deputies with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office arrested Zachary Jenkins in September.

Reports say a 9-1-1 call came in from the child who stated that Jenkins “had sexually assaulted her.” Deputies say they arrived on the scene to find the child outside crying. Soon after, reports say, the child’s mother and Jenkins walked out of the home to talk with the deputies.

The victim told law enforcement that Jenkins had touched her inappropriately.

The child’s mother said, “she was unaware of the assault and had been sleeping.” Jenkins told authorities that he was sleeping as well and “had no idea what was going.”

Huntington Township EMS were dispatched to the residence to transport the child to Adena Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Jenkins could spend the rest of his life behind bars if convicted. Currently, he is being held in the Ross County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
