CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — What sounds like a scene from the movie “Gone In 60 Seconds,” four brand-new cars were stolen from a car dealership in Chillicothe.
Chillicothe Police were dispatched to Herrnstein Automotive on Marrietta Road in Chillicothe after receiving a call from an employee who said the dealership offices had been broken into.
According to reports, the employee showed officers where a glass door on the west side of the building had been busted by a large rock.
The incident happened during the overnight hours between Wednesday and Thursday. The employee reported that several keys had been taken and four cars were stolen. Missing were four 2021 Dodge Challengers. One blue, one white, one green, and one black.
Officers issued a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for the stolen cars, and entered their VIN numbers into their database.
Later in the day on Thursday, an employee called law enforcement and said three of the four cars were being tracked by GPS. Two of the vehicles were said to have been in the “Short North” area of Columbus, and the other was in the Reynoldsburg area. The signal was then lost by the tracking company, which believed the GPS on the vehicles had been disabled.
Chillicothe Police, reports say, attempted to contact the Columbus Police Department. According to reports, those efforts were met with negative results.
The Ohio Highway Patrol was also contacted, along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Troopers, officials say, were able to recover three of the four stolen vehicles that were valued at over $50,000 apiece. The blue 2021 Dodge Challenger has yet to be recovered.
Anyone with information regarding this case should contact the Chillicothe Police Department.
