WAVERLY, Ohio— Two men in Waverly are lucky to be alive after their vehicle became submerged in floodwaters.
According to Waverly Police Chief John Winfield, officers arrived early Wednesday morning at route 220 near River Road to find a Mazda with two passengers stranded in the rising waters.
The chief said his officers immediately jumped into the frigid waters to rescue the occupants.
Officials say that medics were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the driver and his passenger. Both were transported to the police department to make transportation arrangements.
Chief Winfield commends his officers, calling them heroes for braving the elements to save the two men.
The Ohio Department of Transportation says all lanes of Route 220 west at River Rd to Whitfield Way are closed due to flooding.
