CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A student-organized candlelight vigil will be held Friday evening outside of Bennett Hall on the Chillicothe Campus. Organizers say it will take place at 5 p.m.

The event is open to those who wish to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian officials announced the fall of Kherson. The city of nearly 300,000 people was the first major city to fall to Russian forces. According to the mayor, they were surrounded by Russian troops, and Ukrainian forces in the region had been forced to retreat.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced yesterday that Ohio is no longer doing business with Russia.

“As Russian aggression continues to intensify against the people of Ukraine, I want to assure Ohioans that our state has no contracts with Russian businesses now and will not have any contracts for goods and services going forward. We will not support Russia with Ohio taxpayer dollars, “ said DeWine.

Candles, lighters, and pins will be provided at the event for those in attendance.
