ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning shooting that started as a reported overdose and ended in a home invasion.
9-1-1 dispatch received multiple calls around 2:30 a.m. regarding a person going door-to-door on Mounds Lane near Anderson Station Road.
Reports say the individual told the homeowners that they were overdosing and needed help; the Guardian has not been able to independently verify these claims.
Around 2:37 a.m., 9-1-1 dispatch received a third call regarding the person banging on a door at 230 Anderson Station Road. It was then, according to dispatchers, that the homeowner shot the individual after they allegedly attempted to break into their home.
Multiple deputies responded to the scene.
A few minutes later, deputies located the man and requested EMS to transport him to the hospital in critical condition.
The name of the man and the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been released. The incident, authorities say, remains under investigation. His condition also was not released.
