ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County mother facing charges related to the death of her 1-year-old child returns to court today for a pre-trial conference.

On Friday, August 20, 2021, 9-1-1 received a call from the mother who said her son was dead.

At 45 seconds into the call, Lowery’s brother can be heard yelling, “They killed him.”

Deputies with medics from Huntington Township responded to the home on Sullivan Road.

Upon arrival, deputies rushed to begin CPR. Medics transported the boy to Adena Regional Medical Center, where doctors said he was dead on arrival.

Detective Eddie Wheaton of the Ross County Sheriff’s Office called the one-year-old’s death suspicious.

Amanda Lowery, 30, of Chillicothe was indicted last month and charged with involuntary manslaughter, and child endangering.

Court records show that Lowery was taken into custody following her indictment but was released a short time later on a $5000 bond.

Members of the family told the Guardian that the child died with a “massive amount” of Suboxone in his system.

If convicted, Lowery could spend the next 14 years in prison.
