CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department responded to a call of shots fired early Monday morning.

According to the police report obtained by the Guardian, officers responded to the area of Sherman Park, where they were approached by several residents saying a male subject named Taylor pointed a gun at them and then fired at least one shot into the air.

The suspect, witnesses say, fled into a nearby apartment following an altercation within the complex.

Officers went to the apartment in search of the suspect. One resident allowed police to search the residence but did not locate the individual who witnesses said fired the gun.

Officials said officers found four spent .380 cartridges on the ground near the 400 building. Also located, police say, was a cell phone and a plastic bag containing pills.

Police later identified the alleged shooter as 29-year-old Taylor Smalley.

Smalley was located later in the day and was arrested. He remains in custody at the Ross County Jail.

The shooting remains under investigation.
