ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County man will appear in court today after being indicted earlier this month. Casey Lee Potts of Bainbridge is charged with two counts of felonious assault and an additional two counts of assault.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, Potts was arrested on October 16 after an officer responded to a reported domestic violence situation at a residence on South Brownell Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a witness who stated that her brother had been involved in a heated argument with Potts and had asked him to leave the home. Reports say that at that time, Potts became more aggressive and began trying to assault the 9-1-1 caller’s brother. The mother of the male individual then tried to get in between the arguing parties. Police say that is when Potts, who had a “hard cast” on his hand, began assaulting the caller’s mother. The altercation continued until Potts fled the scene before officers arrived.
In an interview with the police, Potts said he was the real victim and was acting in self-defense, and the victim attempted to strike him with a wooden walking stick before damaging his vehicle.
If convicted, Casey Potts could spend up to 18 years behind bars.
