CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe woman who pled guilty to the death of a local man was sentenced to prison this week.
The Guardian broke the story of a deal that had been reached in the case of Morgan Baxter. Morgan Baxter was indicted in January, charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, and failure to report a crime.
According to police, Ethan Sams was shot at a home near Poland Park in April 2021. Investigators in the case said that Baxter then drove the man to Pike County. He would later be pronounced deceased at the Adena Pike Medical Center.
Judge Michael Ater sentenced Baxter to 10 to 15 years in prison on a single count of involuntary manslaughter. She will also be required to pay nearly $6,000 in restitution to the victim’s family.
Baxter, throughout the case, claimed self-defense. She is in custody at the Ross County Jail until her transfer to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
