CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police in Chillicothe were called to a home on Eastview Drive on Saturday night after a 9-1-1 hang-up. When officers arrived, reports say, they heard a gunshot inside the home and forced their way in. Inside, police say, they found a woman who was yelling, for help. Another individual, later identified as 33-year-old John Andrew Nichols was also located inside.

According to the police report, Nichols had been drinking and got into a physical altercation with his wife after an argument. The fight reportedly escalated, and Nichols allegedly fired a 12 gauge shotgun into the ceiling of the home. Nichols told officers on the scene that it was an accident. Police say the shotgun was loaded with another shell when it was seized. A spent cartridge was also located on the floor.
Nichols was arrested and charged with domestic violence, having weapons while intoxicated, and discharging a firearm inside the residence. He was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he will remain pending his appearance in court.
