Thaddeus S. Bates, 62, of Chillicothe died after an extended illness, Sunday, January 15, 2023 at home with his family.
Thad was born December 26, 1960 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Esther (Valentine) and Russell Bates, Jr.
He has spent the last 37 years with the love of his life, Carol Kinney, who survives.
Also surviving are his son, Chad Bates and step-daughter, Amie Kinney; grandchildren, Craig Kinney-Thompson, Jason and Jayden Lytle; Sisters, Toni Bates, Kathaleen (Richard) Graham, Celeste (Michelle) Bates and Raynell Bates; brother, Russell Bates, III; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Thad was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Russell Bates, Jr.; brother, Ammerson “Chico” Bates and grandson, Averie Kinney.
Thad, known to many as Uncle Bo or Bo, worked in food service for several years. Food service was fitting for him as he loved to eat. His sweet tooth was as big as his infectious smile. His love of Ohio State Football went unmatched. Every Saturday, if the game was on, you knew where to find him. The only thing he loved more than Ohio State football was Jeep Commanders and his family and friends. He didn’t know a stranger and to know him was to love him. His sense of humor could light up the darkest room. No matter what he was going through, if asked how he was doing, his reply would always be “Life is Good.”
The family wishes to thank his exceptional caregivers at Adena Cancer Center and The James Cancer Hospital. We would also like to thank Justin Long and the staff at Ware Funeral Home for handling the arrangements and cremation with such kindness and compassion. The family has requested if you wish to send flowers, please send plants. They were Thad’s favorite. If there were a plant to be saved, he would nurse it back to health.
A celebration of Thad’s life will be 4 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the First Baptist Church with Senior Pastor, Rev. Eric C. Carson officiating. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
We are asking everyone to wear scarlet and gray or your favorite OSU apparel as we honor Thad’s life.
