ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County man was arrested after firing shots at his neighbors on Thursday, March 16, according to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. Dane Dwertman, a registered sex offender, allegedly confronted his neighbors after their children made fun of him for being a registered sex offender, which led to a heated argument. The 911 caller reported that Dwertman made multiple threats to kill his family before firing multiple rounds, believed to be from a rifle, in their direction. Witnesses reported that nearly ten rounds were fired, and Dwertman was heard yelling expletives.
After midnight, members of the SWAT team surrounded Dwertman’s residence, and a search revealed no rifle only a loaded 9mm handgun with blanks. Dwertman was taken into custody at the Ross County Jail on four counts of aggravated menacing. Since Dwertman is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess firearms, authorities say that additional charges could be brought against him.
Court records show that Dwertman was convicted in 2005 for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He is labeled a (pre-Adam Walsh Act) sexual predator.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
