CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Petland, Inc. has announced the appointment of Rebecca Atwood, DVM as Director of Veterinary Operations. Dr. Atwood will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of pet health for Petland’s company store locations.

In her new role, Dr. Atwood will develop and sustain a comprehensive animal husbandry and veterinary health care prevention and welfare program. She will also oversee the care of pets within Petland operations, providing veterinary oversight at every step of a pet’s journey, and making science-based recommendations to optimize each pet’s health.

Joe Watson, Petland President, and CEO expressed confidence in the company’s mission to continuously improve all areas of pet health with Dr. Atwood’s addition to the team. “At the core of Petland’s mission is the confidence that pets will be well cared for throughout their lifetime,” said Watson. “With the addition of Dr. Atwood, I’m confident Petland will continue its work in striving for continuous improvement in all areas of pet health while maintaining the highest quality of care for our pets and meeting our customer’s expectations.”

Petland requires each store to have a consulting veterinarian to provide weekly exams and to determine in-store protocols. Dr. Atwood will work with these consulting veterinarians to ensure that all Petland best practices and protocols are being met.

Dr. Atwood has more than 10 years of experience working with small and large animals as a veterinarian, with strong surgical and diagnostic skills. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Her career focus is on reducing pet overpopulation and providing affordable preventive care, and she most recently practiced at a mobile veterinary clinic providing low-cost spay, neuter, and preventive care for pets in communities needing these services.
