ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — The Southeast Major Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant on Wednesday in Millfield related to a drug trafficking investigation, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team served the warrant at 13753 Howard Road and secured the residence, where Daniel James Martin was taken into custody. Tonia M. Martin was simultaneously taken into custody at her place of employment by deputies of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrests came after a long-term investigation by detectives who were prompted by an overdose death that occurred at Martin’s residence in October 2022.

During the search of the home, detectives said they located firearms, cash, and numerous items associated with drug trafficking. All evidence, officials said, will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for testing and analysis.

Daniel James Martin, 50, was transported to the hospital for an evaluation and was subsequently charged with Trafficking in Drugs (F5) and Having Weapons Under Disability (F3). Meanwhile, Tonia M. Martin, 44, was arrested for Trafficking in Drugs (F5) and Possession of Drugs (F5).
