CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Historical Society is set to hold its sixth annual Archaeology Day event on Saturday, April 15th. The event, titled “Rocks, Fossils, and Prehistoric Artifacts,” will be held in collaboration with the Mound City Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio (ASO) and Hopewell Culture National Historic Park.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., attendees can browse through over 20 table-top exhibits showcasing a diverse range of prehistoric artifacts, fossils, and rocks collected by members of the Mound City Chapter of the ASO. The Historical Society’s collection, which is not currently on display, will also be featured, including mammoth and mastodon teeth, geodes, fossils, rocks, minerals, and various prehistoric artifacts discovered locally.

Visitors who have discovered their own items of interest are encouraged to bring them along for identification and analysis by experts like archaeologist JEB Bowen and others, who will be on hand to provide insights and information.

The event will be held at the Ross County Heritage Center located at 45 West 5th Street, Chillicothe. Admission is free and open to the public and includes tours of the Ross County Historical Society’s permanent prehistoric cultures exhibit. For more information, please call (740) 772-1936.
