CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – A 69-year-old man with a walker was brutally beaten and robbed over the weekend in Chillicothe.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening along Hickory Street. Witnesses reported seeing the attack take place while they were traveling along the street. Police reports indicate that the victim was walking in the alleyway behind the Family Dollar when the suspect approached him.

According to the victim, the suspect made comments about his birth certificate before grabbing a grocery bag containing personal items from the victim’s walker and assaulting him. Witnesses provided a description of the attacker to police.

Officers were able to locate the suspect, identified as Kenneth Newsome, in the area of E. Water Street. Newsome admitted to the attack and was found in possession of cigarettes belonging to the victim. He told police that he believed the victim had his missing birth certificate in the grocery bag and attempted to grab it from the walker.

Newsome was arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail on a charge of robbery.
