ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A drive-by shooting stemming from a road rage incident occurred early Saturday morning, according to authorities. Kyle Petty reported to deputies that he was shot at while driving on Liberty Hill Road around 2 a.m. The incident allegedly began when an older model truck began following Petty’s vehicle and driving recklessly behind him.
Petty told deputies that he had turned onto the road in front of the Mead, in the direction of South Paint Street and the truck continued to follow him, driving dangerously close. Petty shouted out of his window, asking the driver why he was driving so recklessly, but the driver responded with profanity that he did not fully understand.
The two continued to drive on route 772 when the truck began blinding Petty with an aftermarket light bar. The truck passed Petty and slammed on its brakes, nearly blocking the roadway, according to the report. Petty managed to get around the truck, but it then passed him again. The truck eventually turned onto Happy Hollow Road and stopped, while Petty continued driving on Liberty Hill, passing Happy Hollow. Petty stated that after he passed Happy Hollow, the driver of the truck held up his hand, and Petty could hear and see three gunshots coming from the driver’s side of the truck. Fortunately, Petty’s vehicle was not hit, he said.
Petty was unable to provide a description of the driver but reported locating the truck at a residence on Happy Hollow Road. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
