CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Health District has released the results of its recent health inspections, revealing several establishments with both critical and non-critical violations. Among the businesses inspected, Frisch’s Big Boy on North Bridge Street stood out with multiple infractions.
Signature Healthcare of Chillicothe, located at 60 Marietta Rd, received a non-critical violation on May 18. The violation involved observing employee cigarettes on a nonfood contact surface in the kitchen storage area. Prompt corrective action was taken, and the cigarettes were removed.
The Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center, situated at 312 East Second Street, also faced scrutiny on the same day. They were cited for two critical control point violations. The first violation involved not having an employee with manager certification in food protection, and the second violation concerned storing eggs above ready-to-eat products in the refrigerator. Corrective actions were taken to address these concerns. Additionally, it was noted that the facility did not have a person in charge per shift with the required certification in food protection. They were cautioned that repeated violations could lead to an administrative hearing.
On May 19, the Holiday Inn Express at 1003 East Main Street received three non-critical violations. They failed to have an employee with manager certification in food protection, and food employees were observed with unrestrained hair. Furthermore, the facility did not have a person in charge per shift with the necessary certification in food protection. The establishment was warned that repeated violations may result in an administrative hearing.
The Healthy Choice Cafe in Central Center faced a violation on May 22. The issue involved observing dishes stored in the handwashing sink, which is not permitted. Corrective action was taken, emphasizing the proper use of handwashing sinks.
However, the most notable violations were found at Frisch’s Big Boy on North Bridge Street on the same day. The establishment received several infractions, including critical control point violations. The violations included improper temperature control of time/temperature-controlled safety food in the reach-in cooler, malfunctioning reach-in cooler, non-compliant lid on the ice machine, absence of irreversible registering temperature indicator for hot water mechanical ware washing operations, accumulation of debris on various surfaces, gaps in wall and floor junctures, and an ongoing investigation regarding a customer complaint about a rotten chicken sandwich served on May 20. The establishment was instructed to take corrective actions, such as moving food items to appropriate coolers, repairing or replacing coolers and ice machine lids, ensuring the availability of test strips for the dish machine, addressing debris buildup, and closing wall and floor junctures to prevent pest harborage. The restaurant was made aware that repeat violations might lead to an administrative hearing.
In addition to Frisch’s Big Boy, Blondie and Brew-Latte Cafe on West Water Street also had violations on the same day. They were cited for the incorrect concentration of the sanitizing solution and a coffee/cheesecake package that did not contain all the required information. Corrective actions were taken to rectify these issues.
