ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — First responders launched a search and rescue effort late-Sunday night near Frankfort that lasted hours.
It happened after they received a call of a brush fire in the area of 1000 Greenlee Road. When they arrived, a man at the scene had been injured by the blaze after a gas can exploded. He took off running into the woods. It was not clear why the man ran or how the fire started.
Firefighters immediately begun putting out the fire and requesting assistance from nearby agencies. A search begun for the man inside the nearby woods because officials said he “was severely injured in the face” from the fire.
Medflight was called to the scene and landed nearby in the event the man was located. The Highway Patrol’s helicopter was also called to search the area but could not fly due to weather.
Multiple canine search dogs were sent to the woods and the countywide search and rescue team was summonsed, as well has drones.
After nearly four hours of searching, the man was found in a shack, “alert and ambulatory” (meaning he was walking). He was treated and released.
