CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department has released a statement on yesterday’s fatal shooting that occurred at 189 E. 4th Street. The incident, which has garnered media attention, prompted a search for the suspect responsible.
At approximately 2:08 pm, authorities received a report of gunshots and an individual lying on the ground at the scene. Responding officers discovered the victim, identified as Joseph Pollock, a 30-year-old Chillicothe resident, who was found on the ground in front of the residence. The Chillicothe Fire Department was dispatched to provide medical assistance, and Pollock was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Following the initial response, the police received information about a “person of interest” seen driving a motorcycle. Law enforcement officers made efforts to apprehend the individual but were unsuccessful, as the suspect managed to evade capture.
The Chillicothe Police Department’s Detective Division has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They are urging local residents and community members with any information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the Detective Division.
In light of this tragic incident and the concerns it has raised within the community, the Chillicothe Police Department reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. To enhance public safety and provide reassurance to the neighborhood, increased patrols will be deployed in the vicinity of the shooting.
The statement released by authorities provides little solace to the community, which has been deeply affected by a recent surge in gun violence. Since December of 2022, the city has experienced over a dozen shootings, resulting in multiple serious injuries, including two young teens. This latest incident marks the second gun-related homicide in Chillicothe this year, leaving the community gripped by a sense of unease and concern.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The investigation is ongoing, and the police department pledges to provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.
