CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department has issued a reminder to the public about the dangers and legal consequences of discharging firearms within city limits following an incident that occurred during the Fourth of July celebrations.

On Wednesday. a concerned citizen visited the Police Department to report individuals discharging firearms in the area of Church Street around 11:00 pm the previous night. Officers launched an investigation and discovered several shell casings behind a residence. Officers determined that the individuals involved had fired shots into the ground and air as part of their festivities. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.

However, the Chillicothe Police Department wants to emphasize that discharging firearms within city limits is strictly prohibited and poses a significant danger to the community. Firing guns into the air, especially during celebratory events, can have severe consequences, including injury or death to innocent bystanders and property damage.

As a result of their actions, the individual, 23-year-old Tyree Nelson, has been cited for Discharging a Weapon While Intoxicated and Discharging a Firearm Within the City Limits.

The Chillicothe Police Department urges everyone to celebrate special occasions and holidays safely and responsibly.
