CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, and Chillicothe Police Department will be conducting a OVI checkpoint on Eastern Avenue in Chillicothe tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The checkpoint is funded by federal grant funds and is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers. It will also be conducted in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.

Police are urging motorists to designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before consuming alcohol. They say that driving while impaired is a senseless and selfish act that can have deadly consequences.

If you are stopped at the checkpoint, you will be asked to provide your driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance. You may also be asked to participate in field sobriety tests.

If you are arrested for DUI, you could face a number of penalties, including fines, jail time, and the loss of your driver’s license.

Police are asking for the public’s cooperation in this effort to keep impaired drivers off the road. If you see a suspected impaired driver, you should call 911.
