CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Southern Ohio, including Chillicothe, is gearing up for a celestial spectacle today: a total solar eclipse. This dramatic event will see the moon pass in front of the sun, casting a swath of the state into temporary darkness.
The eclipse will begin in Texas and travel northeastward across North America. Chillicothe will not be in the path of totality, but local residents will enjoy a good show, weather permitting.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be partly cloudy. There remains a grain of uncertainty on the thickness of cloud cover this afternoon.
Eclipse Timing for Chillicothe
- Partial eclipse begins: 1:54 pm EDT
- Maximum eclipse: 3:12 pm EDT
- Partial eclipse ends: 4:26 pm EDT
Important Safety Notice
Directly viewing the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause severe eye damage. Never look at the sun without specialized solar eclipse glasses or filters. Standard sunglasses are not sufficient.
