CHILLICOTHE, OHIO – Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, located at 1351 Western Ave in Chillicothe, has been cited for multiple critical and non-critical violations following a recent inspection by the Ross County Health District.
The inspection, conducted due to a complaint about debris in the ice and meat at room temperature, revealed a series of violations. These included the absence of a written employee illness policy and procedures for responding to vomiting or diarrheal events. The establishment was instructed to post these policies in a place accessible to employees.
Critical violations included the accumulation of debris inside the ice machine located at the bar, requiring thorough cleaning and maintenance. Working containers of sanitizer were not properly labeled, a violation that was corrected during the inspection.
Other violations observed included an open drive-thru window and outer door by the restrooms, the accumulation of dead insects on a fly strip, dirty knives stored on a magnetic strip, and the absence of a sanitizer test kit. The establishment was also cited for unclean non-food contact surfaces of a microwave, bar cup storage, around the sides of a fryer, and seals of cold and hot holding equipment.
Further, there was observed build-up of debris on shelves and the floor of the walk-in cooler, and light intensity in the walk-in refrigerator was found to be less than ten-foot candles.
The inspection was conducted as part of a Critical Control Point Inspection, and food safety procedures were reviewed with the person in charge. The establishment is now required to address these violations to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
NOTE: All restaurant inspections are public records and can be obtained from the local health department.
