LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the disturbing discovery of a deceased infant. Deputies were dispatched to a property at 81 Township Road 349 on Wednesday, where they were informed that a fetus had been found on the premises.
The mother of the deceased child, identified as 38-year-old Carrie Copley of South Point, had been transported to the hospital earlier in the day. As the investigation progressed, deputies interviewed Copley. Following the interview, she was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
The remains of the infant were subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for a forensic autopsy.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has not released any further details regarding the ongoing investigation at this time.
