ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — On May 2, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Route 28 in Ross County following a report of a domestic dispute that escalated into a brief armed standoff.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who alleged that her boyfriend, Andrew Murphy, had assaulted her. She reported that Murphy, who was possibly armed with an AR-15 rifle, had grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a wall. The victim managed to escape the residence with her children and called 911 from a neighbor’s home.
Deputies arrived at the residence and knocked on the door several times. They were able to gain access to the house using a key obtained from the victim’s vehicle.
Upon entering the residence, deputies were met with resistance from Murphy who yelled at them to back up. Murphy, who was seen inside the house armed with an assault rifle and wearing body armor, reportedly became more irate and demanded that deputies not enter his house. Deputies drew their weapons in response to the threat.
After a tense standoff during which Murphy held his finger on the trigger of his rifle, he eventually put down his weapon and surrendered to deputies.
Murphy was arrested and charged with domestic violence, criminal damaging, endangering children, strangulation, obstruction, and possession of weapons under disability.
