COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ryan Ramos, a former burn unit ICU nurse at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to child pornography.

Ramos, aged 38 and residing in Columbus, faces a potential prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

Ramos worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital from 2018 to 2020 and later at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in the ICU specializing in burn trauma until 2023.

An FBI investigation in 2020 revealed Ramos’s involvement in a Signal app group dedicated to sharing child pornography. He disseminated hundreds of explicit images and videos involving child sexual abuse.

Further scrutiny revealed that in 2018, Ramos paid a sexual offender in New York City to make child pornography for him. He transferred over $500 via PayPal to the exploiter.

Ramos’s iPhone contained more than 346,000 chat messages across Signal, Telegram, and other platforms, many related to child pornography.

He was charged on May 6 and pleaded guilty during his arraignment. Ramos remains in custody pending sentencing, which will be determined by the Court based on statutory guidelines.
