CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Ross County Health District conducted a standard inspection of the Chillicothe Country Club’s main pool on June 13, 2024, and identified several violations. The pool was cited for one critical violation and six non-critical violations, prompting corrective actions.
The critical violation concerned insufficient chlorine disinfectant levels, falling below the minimum required 1 ppm (part per million). The inspection noted a reading of only 0.5 ppm at the time. Health officials stressed the importance of proper chlorine levels for safe pool operation and instructed the club to address this issue before reopening the pool.
Other violations included a malfunctioning circulation system failing to meet the required flow rate, gaps exceeding the allowed size in the pool barrier, and missing safety equipment like a life-saving reach pole and a flotation device with a throw line. Additionally, signage requirements for supervising children and pool closure warnings were not met.
The Health District report noted that new pool equipment, including a flow meter, chemical feeder, and pump, had been installed. However, it emphasized the need for prior approval from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) before implementing such changes.
The Chillicothe Country Club is required to rectify all violations and ensure proper pool operation before reopening. Health officials reviewed proper chlorine levels, safety equipment requirements, and proper barrier maintenance procedures with the pool operator.
In a separate inspection on June 5, 2024, the Ross County Health District also cited the Hampton Inn & Suites at 100 N. Plaza Blvd. for violations related to water clarity and pH levels.
