CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — An evening patrol on Belleview Avenue led to the arrest of David McClure for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) after a series of dangerous driving incidents. The initial report of a reckless driver was called in by an off duty officer, who had just finished his shift but observed erratic behavior from a white Kia with Ohio registration KGS4173.

The off duty cop trailed the Kia south on Belleview Avenue towards Plyleys Lane, noted the vehicle’s erratic lane changes and its collision with a mailbox at 243 Belleview Avenue. The vehicle continued before stopping at 407 Belleview Avenue, where officers made contact with the driver.

In the report provided by the Chillicothe Police Department, officers said, “David had trouble standing, was swaying, and smelled strongly of alcohol.”

McClure reportedly admitted to consuming two beers earlier in the day but refused to undergo a Field Sobriety Test.

Upon verifying McClure’s license status through the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS), it was confirmed that he was driving under an OVI suspension. Subsequently, McClure was arrested for OVI, driving under suspension (DUS) for OVI, and other related charges. He was read his Miranda rights and transported to Ross County Jail.
