COLUMBUS, Ohio — Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. of Weston, OH, has announced the recall of specific lots of Sun Seed Vita Prima Hedgehog Food and Vitakraft Vita Smart Hedgehog Food due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall, made in coordination with the FDA and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of animals and humans.

Salmonella can cause serious health issues in both animals and humans. Pets infected with Salmonella may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella should watch for symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Severe cases can lead to more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
The recalled products were distributed to the following states: AZ, CA, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI. Retailers and distributors have been contacted to remove the affected lots from their inventories and shelves.
