CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Authorities are investigating two homes hit by gunfire on South Sugar Street on July 27.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, officers responded to 82 S Sugar St. on reports of a house that had been hit by bullets. Officers arrived and found a spent 9mm round on a living room couch. The resident reported hearing 4-5 popping noises resembling gunshots around 2 a.m. but did not investigate further at the time. Later, upon returning home, the resident noticed a bullet mark on the wall, a hole in the front window, and damage to a curtain. Photographs were taken of these damages.
Further investigation revealed additional bullet damage at 84 S Sugar St, a property next door. The front of the house had three bullet holes, and the rear entrance was found open. Inside, officers observed at least two more bullet holes in the walls.
In a nearby gravel area owned by the Railroad Company, authorities collected 12 spent shell casings—11 brass and one steel—along with an unspent round, a new spring, and a vape cartridge.
A statement was recorded from the resident at 82 S Sugar St, and efforts were made to contact the resident at 86 S Sugar St, who might have captured footage of the incident. However, no one was home at the time of the visit.
The investigation into the shooting continues. No further details are available at this time.
